How to Prepare Yam Porridge

Yam porridge or Asaro is another delicious Nigerian yam dish cooked in a well-seasonedĀ pepper mix until soft and fluffy with some yam chunks. It is very quick and easy to make. It makes a perfect dinner or lunch and it is also a party favorite.

Yam Porridge Recipe

Below are the ingredients you will be needing to prepare yam Porridge:

  1. Yam
  2. Bonga fish
  3. Palm oil
  4. Rodo (Scotch bonnet)
  5. Onions
  6. Tin tomatoes
  7. seasoning cube
  8. Salt
  9. Beef stock
  10. Ugwu leave

Method of Preparing Yam Porridge

  1. Peale your yam and cut into cubes and set aside
  2. Blend your pepper and onions and set aside
  3. Debone the Bonga fish and set aside
  4. Dice enough onions and set aside
  5. Get a pot on fire, Add the washed yam
  6. Add the beef stock and some water
  7. Add seasoning cube to taste
  8. Salt to taste, add the diced onions
  9. Cover it to cook until it’s soft
  10. Get another pot on fire
  11. Add Palm oil, and some of the diced onions
  12. Allow it to fry a bit
  13. Add the tin tomatoes and fry it very well
  14. Add the blended pepper and onions
  15. Allow it to fry very well
  16. Add it into the cooked yam and mix it together
  17. Add your ugwu leave and mix it well
  18. Or you can stir fry your ugwu leave separately and serve with it as a side
  19. And your yam Porridge is ready.
