Yam porridge or Asaro is another delicious Nigerian yam dish cooked in a well-seasonedĀ pepper mix until soft and fluffy with some yam chunks. It is very quick and easy to make. It makes a perfect dinner or lunch and it is also a party favorite.
Yam Porridge Recipe
Below are the ingredients you will be needing to prepare yam Porridge:
- Yam
- Bonga fish
- Palm oil
- Rodo (Scotch bonnet)
- Onions
- Tin tomatoes
- seasoning cube
- Salt
- Beef stock
- Ugwu leave
Method of Preparing Yam Porridge
- Peale your yam and cut into cubes and set aside
- Blend your pepper and onions and set aside
- Debone the Bonga fish and set aside
- Dice enough onions and set aside
- Get a pot on fire, Add the washed yam
- Add the beef stock and some water
- Add seasoning cube to taste
- Salt to taste, add the diced onions
- Cover it to cook until it’s soft
- Get another pot on fire
- Add Palm oil, and some of the diced onions
- Allow it to fry a bit
- Add the tin tomatoes and fry it very well
- Add the blended pepper and onions
- Allow it to fry very well
- Add it into the cooked yam and mix it together
- Add your ugwu leave and mix it well
- Or you can stir fry your ugwu leave separately and serve with it as a side
- And your yam Porridge is ready.
